The Lea County Museum was created by the Lovington Women's Club in 1969
when the club purchased the Commercial Hotel, which was about to be razed.

Lovington’s present population sits at a comfortable 9,200. The economic base is strongly geared around oil and gas, agriculture and food processing. The city is open to industry of all kinds.
